Fireside Chat with Gary McGowan

Hi Gary,

Thanks for joining us on our Fireside chat. I have to say you are a busy man to get hold of đŸ˜ƒ. We gather that you are an Influencer within the Wellbeing and Nutrition space.

For those who are familiar with our Fireside Chats, they know that our first point of reference is our interviewees and seeing what the stars have in store for them.

You are a Pisces and a Pig in the Chinese horoscope, it looks like the Capricorns take over has been ended!

The common positive traits we found are that you an optimist, selfless and good tempered. By the looks of it this Fireside Chat will be a walk in the park so let’s jump into it!

So, Gary, what was your childhood dream?

Gary:  To become a pilot!

Interviewer: Wow, I wasn’t expecting that.

What’s the best book you ever read?

Gary: Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink or 12 Rules of Life by Jordan B. Peterson.

Interviewer: I have been recommended these books several times, they are supposed to be a great read, particularly around leadership.

This is one of the questions we love asking in the Fireside Chat: What was the best advice you ever received from someone?

Gary: I haven't received it directly, but taking ownership of absolutely everything in my life is probably the best advice I've adopted.

Interviewer: Accountability and ownership are key!

If you were to give advice to anyone beginning their lifestyle journey Gary, what would that be?

Gary: To recognise that your health is the single most valuable thing that you own and that nobody else is responsible for it but you.

Interviewer: I couldn’t agree more, and it goes back to taking ownership of the most important thing in someone’s life, their health and wellbeing. As the saying goes “Your Health is your Wealth.”.

This brings us nicely to our next question. What are the 3 main techniques you use to motivate yourself?

Gary: Recalling my volunteering experiences in a Belarussian orphanage is undoubtedly the number one motivator for me. I don't need much else!

Interviewer: No doubt that must have been the most humbling experience and

one that you surely learned a lot from.

What would you consider Gary to be your 3 major strengths?

Gary: My work ethic has to be number one, I consider questioning everything my strength and number 3 has to be avoiding trying to "fit in".

Interviewer: I can see that that your strength comes from being a unique, curious and hardworker.

Gary, there must be something you would like to improve. Can you tell us 3 areas you would like to improve?

Gary: Yes, definitely there are areas I would like to improve, focusing on too many things at the one time is one. I am occasionally too agreeable and that is an aspect I would like to work on and the third would be my drive for chasing perfection in everything.

Interviewer: I can see some links between your horoscope and the areas you are looking to improve. The horoscope says that you are an optimist, so I guess you are confident that you can handle a lot at the same time, it also says you are selfless so you are “occasionally too agreeable”.

You have been a complete sport! Our Fireside Chat is coming to an end and as always, we ask our all Spotlighters what are their major goals in 2018. Can you let us know what are yours?

Gary:  Mine is to create the best health & fitness membership site in the world.

Interviewer: One thing I am sure of is that you will work your socks off to achieve it.

Gary thanks a lot for taking the time to do the Fireside Chat and letting the WeSavvy Community know a little bit more about you and sharing your expertise with us.
